Nisha's Photoshoot

Photoshoot Nisha & Suzy

After all my more technical and profession-related blogposts you can find here, I’m going to write an article today about our last photoshoot. All about relaxing & fun with taking pictures !

The photoshoot took place at Marta Hurtado’s studio, a really talented photographer from brussels.

Marta loves to take photographs in the natural light of her studio, she has the gift to put people in their comfort zone, what makes that there can be nice, confident portraits taken.

My boss, Fiona, proposed to her friends Nisha & Suzy to do a photo shoot like this. We had our first 2 business photo shoots with Marta, and were really happy about our choice, because it gave us such positive energy.

Suzy didn’t participate to this photoshoot. She decided to do it the next time, but she really enjoyed to watch . Marta is also a very spiritual person, she has a lot of books about this subject. Suzy immediately saw the books about magic, and she started reading those on this rainy day.

Meanwhile Nisha was getting pampered for her photoshoot with make-up artist Aicha. She chose the smokey eyes look. As soon Nisha was ready, the result was really pretty ! Nice to know is that Nisha never worn make-up before and it was also the first time Suzy had seen her sister with make-up on. Afther the make-up they also did Nisha’s hair, they curled it and then she was ready for her photo session.

As usual, Marta had a nice set-up, beautiful light and a darker background which made Nisha’s eyes twice as beautiful.

While the pictures were taken, under the approving eyes of Fiona, Suzy, me and even Marta’s cat Milly. As time went by, you could see that Nisha’s confidence grew in front of the camera.

After the photoshoot you could also feel the positive energy. Unfortunately  Fiona and I had to leave around 1 ‘o clock because we could not make our clients wait. Altough we were very happy that we could be part of it.

So, this was a really positive experience. Even tough it was raining, Marta succeeded to create a light as well for Fiona, as for Suzy, as for me. And who knows… There might be a next one following with our Web-Fi team :) !

Interview with a web analyst

How can someone ‘stand out of the crowd’ in interviews for web analysts ?

That’s a wonderful and complicated question. Every interview and interviewer is unique. Tools can be learned on the job, processes can be masered, chairs can be shifted to a more comfortable position. But critical thinking is much harder to teach. I deeply value some of the skills for example using ‘wasted’ time, solve a problem a day, redefine the way you see things, analyse group influences on your life, and so on…

Far too many people have theoretical eperience. Even if you are young and just starting out, you can have your own site, your own AdWords campaign, and so on… It depends on what you want to do wit hit.

Interviewers care less that you have worked at a massive company with the most complex programs. Or that you personally created the ‘Dove Beauty ads’. They care more about how you think about subject and how you analyse.

If you want to work as a good web analyst, you have to know the only things you can be sure of in this business are the changes in marketing, analytics, people, sales, technology, opportunities, posibilities, organisations,…

How can you be seen as a successful entrepreneur ?

You can be a successful entrepeneur if you meet this definition:

Insanely passionate belief + work insanely hard + dream outrageously + strong sense of reality.

What is web analytics for me ?

Web analytics is the measuring, collection, analysing, reporting internet data to understand the data better and to optimize the webusage. It’s much easier to understand the usage of your website and to collect the correct data and that you can see that there is always room for improvement.

Name a few things that retailers should do with their analytics efforts, and what most of them don’t do today.

Measuring data & the succes of measuring, should be in your dna. The most important part of every process should be that the data is being looked at and being analyzed. There is nothing such as a second chance, to overlook the data again. There has to be an immediate reaction.

How would you use analytics to improve a company?

Measuring = knowledge. If you want to collect your data, everything has to be measured in the right way. You have to take a closer look at the behaviour of your visitors online & your possible clients, what you can improve, and with all this knowledge you should be able to make sure you can improve the user experience for your visitors.

What are your favorite reports?

Afther all this time, I already have good experience with setting up reports. These reports are still based on Google Analytics but they become more advanced in Excell. This tool is, for us, the easiest and best way for our clients to have a good view over the report.

What is so special about you as a web analyst?

There are a lot web analysts, but a good digital analyst is much harder to find. There are a lot of people who are good in the usage of tools and printing graphs and data. But for me, this doesn’t seem the only thing people are looking for in a good web analyst. It’s all about how you read the data afther you measured it, how you analyze and afther that giving your client the correct data and explain your data. You have to be 100% sure about the information you are giving the client.

What is your current position and the name of the company you work for?

Currently, I am working for Webfi. We help our clients to get as much as information possible out of their website. We do web analytics implementation and management, Google AdWords consultancy & management, conversion optimalisation and training.

How long do you work now as a web analyst?

One year and a half, combined with a lot of training and supported by Fiona. Fiona also took the time to always take me to clients, where I could learn a lot more. I also followed online classes, but I also got the opportunity to go to several courses in Brussels, even in London. And when you immediatly get the chance to learn when you are working in your job, you also learn a lot more.

Why did you choose web analytics?

I’ve always been really interested in the whole online happening. This business grows sof ast and is extremely fascinating. Thanks to Fiona I got this opportunity and I used the chances I got to get where I am now.

Daylight Saving Time

Daylight saving time (DST) or summer time =

Practice of advancing clocks during the lighter months so that evenings have more daylight and mornings have less.

Typically clocks are adjusterd forward one hour near the start of spring an are adjusted backward in the autumn.

The modern idea of daylight saving was first proposed in 1895 by George Vernon Hudson. He had a shift-work job that fave him leisure time to collect insects, and led hi mto value after-hours daylight.

It was first implemented by Germany and Austria-Hungary starting on 30 April 1916. Many countries have used it at various times since then, most consistently since the energy crises of the 1970’s.

By synchronously resetting all clocks in a region tob e one hour ahead of Standard Time, individuals who follow such a year-round schedule will wake an hour earlier than they woulr dhave otherwise. They will begin and complete daily work routines an hour earlier, and they will have an extra hour of daylight after their workday activities. However they will have one less hour o daylight at the start of each day, making the policy less practical during winter.

Soon to come

Shortly you will find our blog posts in this section of the website.

International Women's Day

It’s soon to be International Women’s Day again. 8th of March to be exact. And there are a few fun and interesting facts to know about this day.

Some research in Google Trends shows that in particular people in Australia are showing the most online interest in this event, celebrating women for their achievements. If anybody has any pearls of wisdom to offer as to why Australia would be the leading advocate of women’s rights, we at Web-Fi would be interested to find out.
